Prior to moving to GBS, Michael was positioned in projects at Redrow Plc (one of the largest British housebuilding firms listed on the FTSE 250). He has held numerous managerial positions within the automotive and engineering industries – including roles as Purchasing and New Product Development Manager in automotive factory and production line setups across Europe.

Most notably, he has worked with the global blue-chip engineering group GKN Plc (quoted on the FTSE 100), and the German automobile manufacturer Volkswagen (VW).

The team at GBS were pleased to invite Richard to postpone his planned retirement and to join the team at GBS so that we may utilise his skill sets at driving companies forward to achieve their aims.

Starting in Industrial Engineering in the food industry, Richard progressed to senior Industrial Engineer status within both the Automotive and Furniture Manufacturing Industries. Richard was responsible for a major improvement project which led to the introduction of one of the first robotic systems in the UK (RAMP – Random Activity Multiple Programmer). His career continued within the “engineering of industry” environment to senior management level for multi-national companies, which included responsibility for multi-site manufacturing facilities, manufacturing innovation, factory layouts, ergonomics and the development and measurement of manufacturing systems.

Richard also served as Director of European Operations at BPC Inc. and was involved in banking projects and UK Football Association projects.

Richard was head-hunted by a national company in Yorkshire and undertook the initial role of Manufacturing Director before being promoted to the parent board as group Operations Director, where he helped to create an award winning multi-million pound business.

Later in his career, Richard established his own consultancy firm before transitioning to Managing Director at a high-tech electronics firm supplying the MOD’s Warship Support Agency (WSA), various airlines and numerous blue-chip entities such as Airbus, BAE, Rolls Royce, BMW, Sandvik, and Iscar.
